Nakamichi Rx-505 Manual

I couldn't afford one of these when stationed in the Philippines in 1984-1986, but I lusted after them. A friend of mine bought the rx303, and just watching the tape flip was more entertaining than most of the TV we had access to. The sound was very nice, but after buying a very nice 2nd owner 505, I am much more impressed with the sound and functions. My roommate in the Philippines actually owned a Dragon that he played through a small boombox..I know. From my experience, the 505 is the equal, sonic-ally, of the Dragon without the maintenance hassles. And the visually amazing auto reverse..amazing.

One of only a handful of models that get auto-reverse right. Like the Dragon, it's in a category pretty much by itself. I'm a huge fan of Pioneer Decks and many of them compete successfully with many of Nak's offerings. But the fact remains that Nak was the target that Pioneer had to aim for and (usually) not the other way around. With the exception of the orange cap syndrome, Naks also seem to hold up without major restoration issues longer than many of their competitors. YMMV.
